Zo nu en dan komt er een programma/website langs wat echt handig kan zijn. Via Marcnext kwam ik op Blastfeed. Blastfeed claimt dat het orde kan scheppen in de chaos die OPML en feeds heet, en ik kan je melden dat dat in mijn geval geen kwaad kan. Je upload je OPML en met gebruik van keywords zoek je gericht in de feeds die erin staan. Nu is dat op zich niets nieuws, maar Blasfeed geeft je de mogelijkheid om die zoekopdracht in een ‘Channel’ om te zetten die jou op de hoogte houd via mail of RSS als er aan de criteria word voldaan.

Kies de feeds die je voor je zoekopracht/Channel wilt gebruiken.
Het resultaat in je mailbox!
Er zijn in mijn ogen nog wel een aantal opstartproblemen waar ze naar moeten kijken. Zo werkt de RSS feed in dit voorbeeld (nog?) niet, en begrijp ik niet waarom er geen knop is waarmee ik al mijn feeds selecteer in mijn OPML. In mijn geval is het wel een must om die RSS feed werkend te krijgen, want email ontvang ik al genoeg en met 217 feeds in mijn OPML klik ik me rot om de gewenste feeds te selecteren.
Nu ben ik via Marc aan een account gekomen (waarvoor dank natuurlijk!), en ik mag nu op mijn beurt 25 mensen blij maken. Effe reageren en ik mail je de invite .
Update: Inmiddels is mij duidelijk geworden dat je per channel maar 50 feeds mag selecteren. Dat geeft een verklaring waarom er geen ’select all’ button staat.

Thanks for trying out Blastfeed ! A few hints regarding your post:
1) The results of a channel (e.g. yours, Blogs in media) are either pusshed by email or through and RSS feed. If by email, you can select the frequency at which you want to get it. For instance, you have selected “as it happens”, hence whenever there is a match (we have detected the words you look for in one of the RSS sources) then an email is sent out. If you do not want emails, just select RSS only and drag and drop the RSS button of your channel into your feed reader.
2) The words you have chosen to look for have to be found “anywhere” in an item of the RSS feed. If you do not see it in the email result, it is because it is somewhere else in the post. To verify just open the source file of the post.
3) We have limited today to 50 the number of feeds to watch for a particular channel. Technically there is no real limit but this is for the beta test.
4) I take your point to be able to assign a full OPML to a channel. We’ll work on that. Likewise, we’ll add a button to select all feeds in a page rather than clicking one by one.

1) When I click the RSS button on a channel, I get a message saying ‘an error occurred’. I already got emails from this channel, so there should be data there. When I put the url from the feed in Bloglines it says there’s no feed available.
2) I should have mentioned that one. Again this shows that RSS feeds always should contain a full post and no summaries of posts.

Thanks for point 1, there was an error on our side when creating the RSS feed generated. It is fixed now.
For point 2, today we search anywhere (when selecting that option) in an item, including links, etc. Hence we may find a word like “blog” in any link for instance. Now we could be stricter and search only in the textual content. We’ll do that but have to decide of the best way to implement it.

As for the search, why not make it an option so people can decide for themselves? The word ‘blog’ may be found in every entry, so for this option I would choose to only search the textual content. But when I want to search for a word like ‘bakkel’ it’s useful to search the links in a post. Talk about flexible content!
Absolutely, we can do that. Actually we can search in any field. Just a matter of interface (and a little more). I’ll take your suggestion for sure, thanks.
